Calf Hypertrophy

The bulky appearance of the calves is caused by hypertrophy (increase and growth of muscle cells) of the gastrocnemius muscles (leg triceps), which can result from prolonged wear of high heels and sports. It could also have been just genetics. The calf area contains a layer of hypodermal fat, but does not account for much of the calf size, hence liposuction is not usually effective.

Treatments

The “K-Calf Reduction Treatment”

The calf slimming treatment involves a few injections of Botulinum Toxin to the calf muscle(s), and the circumference of the calves will start to reduce noticeably. It could block peripheral motor nerves to the leg triceps, which has the effect of reducing the muscle bulk, and thus giving a more streamlined contour to the leg. The treatment is simple and akin an insect bite, as some would call it. Thus, it has no need for anaesthesia. The optimal result comes after approximately three months.

Botulinum A injection

Achieve slimmer calves with Botulinum A injections, a non-surgical treatment that relaxes calf muscles and reduces their size. This minimally invasive procedure provides natural-looking results, enhancing the shape of your legs while minimizing recovery time. Enjoy a more contoured appearance and improved leg aesthetics.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we expect cosmetic improvement in gastrocnemius hypertrophy using botulinum toxin?

We demonstrated a significant circumference reduction. BTX-A injection showed a significant decrease in calf circumference after 8 weeks (preinjection: 36.35 ± 0.63 cm versus postinjection: 35.87 ± 0.61 cm; P = 0.03).

In conclusion, BTX-A injections can be a good noninvasive method for the correction of hypertrophic gastrocnemius muscles.

Is this treatment safe?

Botulinum toxin therapy is a viral cosmetic treatment. Various clinical researchers have proven that botulinum toxin A is a valuable ingredient in the treatment of benign masseteric hypertrophy, correcting the squared facial appearance and reducing enlarged calf muscles.

What can I expect from my treatment?

The injections show immediate results within two weeks. After this, you can see the final results of slimmer and reduction within two months. Please do note, the botulinum toxin provides only temporary results, so we recommend repeated treatment once every six months.

What is the recovery time?

Because this is a gentle and minimally invasive procedure, there is no recovery or downtime. It is a convenient treatment with fast results.

Is calf reduction painful?

During the injection, you can experience some discomfort that is manageable. Patients typically describe a sensation in their calves that is analogous to that of a cramp in the initial month or two following the treatment. In addition to this, you can have some trouble walking for the first several weeks after the procedure. Aside from that, the process doesn’t involve any discomfort at all.

Can you walk after calf reduction surgery?

The biggest adverse consequence of having your calves reduced is that you will have trouble walking for the first one to two weeks after the procedure. This is to be expected given that the majority of calf reduction treatments involve either partially paralyzing or completely eliminating the calf muscle. Your body requires some time to readjust, and once it has done so, you should experience a return to normal in all of your calves’ functions. After the first two weeks, you are free to walk.
