An uneven skin tone, called hyperpigmentation, is irregular darkening of the skin. The cause: overproduction of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin and hair colour. The resulting dark patches and spots are typically perceived as “aged skin” and can make you look more older than your actual age (12 years!).
The condition is a representation of irregularities of skin tones due to hyperpigmentation of the normal skin. When micro spots combined, they appear in patches of darker and fairer skin tones. It might be the cause of underlying melasma, lentigines or freckles from uneven distribution of pigments.
